Weekend Reading Vol. 30: A Broke Billionaire, Hot Dead Leo, and Men Who Sew
School’s back! For one of our kids. (We made the uncomfortable Covid-era decision to keep Gibby home from daycare this fall. I couldn’t handle the inevitable rotating sick days.) At least he still naps.
While pretending to work this afternoon, I squeezed in a little anxiety-free online reading. (Matthew was listening to political podcasts at the same time. I can’t read about impending doom while also listening to it.)
Here are a few fun weekend reads. Enjoy.
The Billionaire Who Wanted To Die Broke . . . Is Now Officially Broke (Forbes)
Chuck Feeney sounds like a lovely ex-billionaire. Probably because of the “ex” part.
“I see little reason to delay giving when so much good can be achieved through supporting worthwhile causes. Besides, it’s a lot more fun to give while you live than give while you're dead.”
Rise Of The Sew Bro: Why Men Have Been Crafting Their Own Clothes Over Lockdown (Esquire)
This article features the chore jacket pattern I posted on Instagram at the beginning of the year. I’m on the cutting edge of men’s homemade fashion, apparently.
Leonardo DiCaprio Won’t Let Himself Be Hot Onscreen Without Dying (Vulture)
“While Leo is not hot in every movie he dies in, in every movie he’s hot in, he dies.”
Dear friends, if you’re going to get caught up in Internet theories, let them be like this. (This theory only works if everyone has the same working definition of “hot.”)
Homicide at Rough Point (Vanity Fair)
Did Doris Duke get away with murder? Probably. (This would make a great true-crime miniseries. Glamour! Paranoia! Antique appraisals! Death!)
