Weekend Reading Vol. 27: Mary Poppins, Candy & Flannel
Someone hit a hydro pole in our neighbourhood last night, which meant we were without power from 3 a.m. until noon. Our morning plans were immediately scrapped and we went out for pancakes. Then we went to the library. Then we went to a coffee shop. So now I’ve got that blissful caffeine-and-sugar buzz.
What started off as an uncomfortable — “Our house is freezing!!!” — morning turned into some great quality family time. Even though we were unshowered and feeling greasy and cold-sweaty for most of it.
Now that everyone’s cozy and warm again, it’s time to look back on my favourite reads of the week:
How Do You Reinvent Mary Poppins for 2018? Emily Blunt Has a Few Ideas. (Vogue)
I love Poppins and Blunt. So I probably need to see this movie.
Also at Vogue: 73 Questions With Emily Blunt.
My Social Anxiety Cure-All. (Cup of Jo)
Spoiler: be curious and kind.
Candy Crush. (The New York Times)
Dream job: travel the world, eat candy. (I have a very high sugar tolerance.)
The Annals of Flannel. (The New York Times)
A fascinating story about one man’s quest to bring flannel manufacturing back to the U.S.A.
From A Sweatshirt To A Dining Room?!? (Oh Joy!)
So cheerful. Once the Christmas decorations come down — assuming they go up — there will be some major colour-infusion in this house.
Queen Elizabeth Looks Extremely Luxurious in New Royal Portrait. (The Cut)
Velvet. Is. In.
This “Dated” Kitchen Trend Is Back (And We’re Into It). (Domino)
Yes, please. Matthew and I have been talking about checkerboard floors for years. Apparently we were ahead of the curve?
